Antonin and Antonia Sekera and their six children immigrated from Chotebor, Bohemia in the1890's. They located in Chicago, we suspect, because the two eldest sons, Frantisek (Frank) and Antonin (Anton) found work at the Union Stock Yards. The stock yards were a major employer of new immigrants. We also surmise that once the sons were able to send enough money back home, the rest of the family were able to come to the USA. We know Antonin and Antonia arrived in the United States on July of 1895 aboard the ship 'Havel' from Bremen, Germany along with their four youngest children: Karel (Charles), Anna, Pavlina (Pauline), and Frantiska (Frances). |
